The City of Bradford
The city of Bradford is a metropolitan borough of West Yorkfire and lies at the foot of the Pennines 16 miles to the west of the city of Leeds. Historically part of the old West Riding of Yorkshire Bradford was famous in the 19th century as an international centre for textile manufacture, particularly wool and became known as the wool capital of the world during the Industrial Revolution. Since the decline of the textile sector in the mid 20th century Bradford has become a popular tourist destination with attractions such as the National Media Museum, Cartwright Hall and the nearby village of Haworth made famous by the Bronte family. Currently Bradford has a population of 293,277 and has the youngest, fastest growing population outside of London.
Education in the city of Bradford is organised by Education Bradford and managed by Serco Limited on behalf of Bradford Metropolitan District Council. Two schools in the Bradford area are currently involved in the programme:
